Child and Adolescent Therapy
Play is the language of children. Using play has been found to be very therapeutic for children who use play materials to express what is going on inside them. My role as a child therapist is to help your child communicate his or her feelings and learn to manage them in a way that is more productive and constructive to their development. Because of this, children usually love to come for play therapy which can be very freeing and very healing.
Separate sessions for the parents are also an important part of the child's treatment. Regular monthly sessions are usually scheduled as well and provide the parents with a place to talk about the difficulties of being a parent and especially the difficulties of parenting their particular child.
Adolescents require a more nuanced approach depending on their age. Most will prefer to talk, but sometimes playing games can create a more relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and allow them to feel safer in opening up about what is on their minds.
